To celebrate National Volunteers Week, Chief Executive of Age UK Cheshire East, Lynne Elliot, and staff hosted a cream tea and local MP, David Rutley, was invited along to thank the volunteers for all their excellent work and dedicated commitment.
Hosted at Shrigley Court in Bollington, volunteers from across various communities supported by Age UK Cheshire East attended the event. A variety of cakes and scones were on offer, all provided by Cherry Blossom Bakery in Macclesfield.
Age UK Cheshire East are prioritising getting out into the community, with services available in different locations daily. Supporting residents with their bills and benefit checks, as well as focusing on protecting older and vulnerable residents from scams through targeted awareness and aftercare remains a top priority for the charity. Partnering with the Trading Standards Team, Age UK Cheshire East provide information on how to spot a scam and assist those who have been scammed to not become a repeat victim.
Across the local area, Age UK Cheshire East supports 75 volunteers and 50 members of staff. However, with their services in such demand, they are on the lookout for new volunteers to help deliver their excellent work. From two hours a week, there is a role for everyone who is interested, and more information can be found at:

Speaking after the meeting, David said:
“The work Age UK Cheshire East is doing to ensure vulnerable and older residents have access to support with their benefits, bills and scams awareness is crucial. Working directly in our local communities will allow more people to be able to access their services and receive the support they require. I hope more local residents will consider becoming volunteers to help provide these invaluable services.”
