Age UK Cheshire East is proud to announce a series of informative events called "We Need to Talk About Scams," which will take place in the first week of October 2023.
These events aim to give people with the knowledge and tools to recognise, prevent, and combat scams that unfortunately target many members of our community.
In an age where technology has made life easier in some ways, it has also opened doors for fraudsters to exploit ordinary people like you and me. "We Need to Talk About Scams" will highlight the various tactics scammers employ on the phone, on your doorstep and online, and arm you with practical strategies to safeguard your personal and financial information. There are sessions for the public and sessions for people who work or volunteer with older people.
Event Details:
Dates: Monday 2nd, Tuesday 3rd and Friday 6th October 2023
Location: Online, Congleton Town Hall and Crewe Alexandra Stadium
Admission: Free and open to all ages
Highlights of the Event:
Expertise: Cheshire East Council Trading Standards, Cheshire Police and TrueCall will join the Age UK Cheshire East Scams Awareness Team to deliver expert talks.
Interactive: Activities will help you identify red flags, respond to suspicious communications, and secure your personal information.
Real-Life Stories: Attendees will have the chance to hear about the emotional and financial toll these incidents can have on victims of fraud and how support can help them become survivors.
Community Support: You will be able to find out about local support and organisations dedicated to safeguarding older people.
Age UK Cheshire East is committed to building a safer and more informed community for older adults. By hosting "We Need to Talk About Scams" events, funded by Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer’s Community Cashback Fund, and supported by project partners Cheshire East Trading Standards Team, the organisation aims to build awareness, resilience, and unity against the growing threat of scams and fraud.
Join us in October as we come together to learn, share, and strengthen our resilience against scams. For more information and to book your place, please visit the Age UK Cheshire East Eventbrite site at:
