This week, Cheshire East Council formally objected to proposals being developed by Peak Cluster Ltd for a carbon dioxide (CO₂) pipeline that would pass through parts of the borough.
A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said:
“This reflects councillors' concerns about the current proposals and their potential implications for Cheshire East, including public safety and environmental impacts.
“The council has also called for further reassessment of the scheme by Peak Cluster Ltd, including route options and potential impacts, before any future consideration is given to the proposal.
“The council's role in relation to the proposed scheme remains that of a host authority and statutory consultee – it is not the decision maker in this process.
“Following publication of consultation information by Peak Cluster Ltd, expected in November, the council will continue its assessment of the scheme and prepare appropriate reports for Cabinet to enable any responses to that consultation.”
