CHESHIRE FEMALE ENTREPRENEUR RECOGNISED FOR SUCCESS

Habiba Chowdhury, from Northwich, has been named as one of the UK’s most 100 inspirational female entrepreneurs by Small Business Britain’s f:Entrepreneur ‘#ialso100’ campaign.

Habiba, who in 2019 opened Habiba’s School of Spice, formerly known as My Curry Club, and is the UK’s only Bangladeshi cookery school, is being showcased alongside 100 female entrepreneurs from across the UK,  as part of the campaign’s recognition of the multi-achievements of women that have proved critical to society during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now in its fourth year, f:Entrepreneur was launched in 2017  to highlight amazing female role models to help and inspire all small businesses, through content, stories and events. It particularly aims to showcase trailblazing female entrepreneurs that lead small businesses alongside a roster of other responsibilities, such as volunteering, mentoring and community support activities.

Indeed, Habiba was also called out for her determination to adapt to the current COVID-19 situation. Unable to open the school to teach for a third lockdown, she created Habiba’s Curry Night, a takeaway service providing some of her unique curries to the surrounding Cheshire areas, which is proving incredibly popular and successful. Thus, despite being in lockdown she has been able to hire four strong women proficient in their own fields to help her grow the business and complement her own skills as a chef and cookery teacher.

During 2020 Habiba garnered yet another industry award by winning The Small Awards 2020 in the Sole to Sole category. She also managed to create a successful collaboration with the internationally renowned Global Knives company and is planning on more partnerships as the business expands.

From beekeepers to PPE, tech entrepreneurs to specialist cookery schools, this year’s campaign celebrates inspiring and resilient female entrepreneurs that have flourished despite Covid-19, with many still growing or starting new ventures.

On being listed in the #ialso100, Habiba said:

“I'm beyond delighted to have been recognised and listed as one of the top 100 female business leaders in the UK. To be on a list among other inspiring women confirms for me that I have made the right decisions with my business. I researched the support business women had in the UK when my business was at infancy stage and to be seen as an inspiring businesswoman was one of my hopes and an important target for my cookery school. Thank you to Michelle Ovens for seeing the full potential in me as Habiba's School of Spice (formerly known as My Curry Club)

Both f:Entrepreneur and Small Business Britain were founded by Michelle Ovens CBE, who is also the director of Small Business Saturday UK.
“Congratulations to all the inspiring women chosen to join this year’s #ialso100,” said Michelle Ovens. “Despite the significant obstacles thrown at them in the last year, female entrepreneurship continues to grow and flourish. We need to continue, and increase, our support for these incredible women and celebrate their amazing strength and success in the face of huge challenges.”
“We have seen so many women embracing change, generating and exploring new ideas, rallying around their communities and supporting their peers. This resilience is hugely valuable and will set them up for success as they will be at the very heart of the UK’s recovery.”
