Senior Knockout Round One – April 16:
Hayfield 83-3 (20; Charlotte Peacock 30*, Sophie Connor 2-2)
Oakmere Kats 87-5 (19.5; Amy Jones 35*, Alicia Peacock 2-12)
Hayfield came within a whisker of causing what would have been perhaps one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history. Instead, Oakmere were indebted to Sophie Connor, whose two maiden overs ensured that her side would not be chasing a larger total.
A great deal has happened in the league during the close season
The League's Annual General Meeting accepted applications to join the league's hardball divisions from these clubs:
· Alvanley
· New Mills
· North East Cheshire - having formally supported the Stockport Georgians 3rd XI in 2022, they are now in a position to field a standalone team
· Macclesfield
· Toft
2023 will also see these teams playing at a higher level, after they either chose to take up their automatic promotions or had applications for promotion approved at the AGM:
· Upton - promoted to Division 1
· Greenfield - promoted to Division 2
· Hayfield - promoted to Division 2
· Buxton - promoted to Division 3
· Lindow 2nd XI - promoted to Division 3
The following clubs had applications to enter additional teams into the hardball divisions approved:
· Buxton - 2nd XI
· Lindow - 3rd XI
Ashton-on-Mersey and Woodley, who were the bottom two teams in Division 2 last year, had an application to field a joint team in Division 3 approved by the AGM.
26 clubs are fielding softball teams in the league’s Division 5 this year. Newcomers here include Aston, Barrow, Caldy, Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge, Christleton, Elworth, Grappenhall, Old Parkonians and Widnes.
The main league season commences for some clubs on April 23, including promoted Upton making their top-flight bow at Chester. Because of their National Knockout involvement, Leigh will wait until April 30 and their trip to Stockport Georgians to start their defence of their first ever league title.
Greenfield and Hayfield both have home matches on April 23 as they start their time as division two clubs, with Hawarden Park and Stockport Trinity respectively providing their opposition.
