Cheshire East Council, in collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions Jobcentre Plus team, successfully hosted the ‘Work for All’ jobs fair at Congleton Town Hall on Wednesday 2nd April.
The jobs fair aimed to provide a platform for job seekers to explore career paths, network with more than twenty potential employers from various sectors and access valuable resources and support. Exceeding expectations, 360 people passed through the doors on the day.
Early feedback indicates a positive experience from both attendees and employers with significant numbers of applications processed on the day and interviews scheduled over the coming weeks.
Martha Cowap, process controller at United Utilities, said of the event:
“We have plenty of career opportunities and literally have something for everyone. We are hearing from so many different people and it’s interesting having conversations about the waste and water treatment industry and the jobs we have available.
“I started work with United Utilities at age sixteen and just coming out of my apprenticeship next month. But I wish there was an event like this when I started my career.”
Councillor Michael Gorman, Cheshire East Council’s committee chair for economy and growth, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s success and said:
“Building on the highly successful Macclesfield and Crewe jobs fairs, the ‘Work for All’ event in Congleton has proven to be a vital link between our community and local employers.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to witness the positive impact these events have on people’s lives, and by working in partnership with local businesses, we are committed to supporting our residents in finding meaningful employment.
“These events underscore the council’s commitment to fostering economic growth and supporting local employment and clearly demonstrate the strong potential within our borough along with the willingness of employers to engage the local workforce.”
