Cheshire East Council's Labour Group has welcomed the decision of the Government to not proceed with a New Town at Adlington. This follows the unanimous decision to oppose the proposal by Cheshire East Council.
This follows the unanimous decision to oppose the proposal by Cheshire East Council.
A New Town at Adlington would have destroyed high quality grazing land, long established farms and significant woodland and areas of recognised ecological value without providing the necessary infrastructure.
We need the right homes in the right place and Adlington New Town was a flawed proposal which doesn’t meet either Government planning policies or the Cheshire East Local Plan process.
There is no doubt that we need affordable and social housing including starter homes and homes for older and vulnerable adults with the medical, educational, transport and community services to enable sustainable living.
We have a housing crisis with children and families living in temporary accommodation and nearly 12,000 households in Cheshire East on the housing waiting list.
Cllr Nick Mannion, Leader of Cheshire East Council said:
‘This is a welcome decision after the unanimous decision of Council which made clear to Ministers that the proposal for a New Town at Adlington was unsuitable. We will continue to work through our Local Plan process to make sure that new sites are bought forward in a planned way as part of the Local Plan process with the involvement of our communities.’
