The first phase of a footway improvement scheme in one of the borough’s popular destination towns has now been completed on schedule.
Highways teams completed the work on Beam Street, in Nantwich, after an 18-week road closure. New paving and kerbing, forming high quality public realm improvements, have been installed, with an enhancement to road safety and an upgraded pedestrian crossing and central island improvements included.
The project, which began in June, has given a facelift to the area, transforming Beam Street through smart footway improvements and new street furniture offering a pleasant walking and shopping environment for residents and visitors.
The town is one of the borough’s outstanding destination places for visitors because of its many public events and attractions, and its Tudor and Georgian architecture.
Councillor Craig Browne, deputy leader and chair of Cheshire East Council’s highways and transport committee, said: “I would like to thank the residents, businesses and visitors to Nantwich for their patience and understanding during this work, which has enhanced the town centre and I am confident we will all enjoy the full benefits when the final phase of the work is completed in 2023.
“I also congratulate our highways team on the quality of this scheme and thank our ward members in Nantwich for the support they have given to this project.”
Further highways improvements in Nantwich will see the resurfacing of Beam Street in the new year to avoid further disruption in the town in the run up to Christmas.
This work will be carried out under phased closures, with further details to follow in advance as part of the project communications plan.
