Pott Shrigley’s community cinema, ‘Flix in the Stix’, has recently made its second donation in five years to Project Peru.
Local MP, David Rutley, met with committee Chairman, Peter Boulton and Treasurer and Ticket Secretary, Anthea Wilkinson to discuss their donation from generous Pott Shrigley residents.
In 2018, Flix in the Stix linked the screening of Paddington Bear 2 with a raffle, in which the winning prize was two uncirculated 50p coins portraying Paddington Bear both at Paddington Station and Buckingham Palace. The committee was able to match fund the proceeds and donated £136 to Project Peru, in the home of much-loved Paddington Bear.
Following this success, in 2022 the committee was able to obtain a limited addition UK Jubilee Weekend 50p Celebration set. This included two uncirculated 50p coins, one commemorating the Platinum Jubilee and the other of Paddington Bear at Buckingham Palace. Another raffle was held, with the funds once more match funded, with £200 donated to Project Peru.
Project Peru is a registered, voluntary based charity in the UK, which raises funds to support their children’s refuge in Lima, Peru. The refuge provides food, shelter, education, health care and activities to children in the refuge and wider community.
Flix in the Stix meet on the first Wednesday of every month, with the film chosen by audience vote. Tickets are £4 per person with advance booking or £5 on the day. Further information and contact details can be found using the following link:

Speaking after the meeting, David said:
“Flix in the Stix is a much-valued community initiative, which showcases a variety of different films each month. The work they have done to raise funds for Project Peru, by linking this to the showing of the Paddington Bear movies is creative and I know, as the Minister for the Americas, this will be greatly appreciated by the charity.”
