Fantastic GCSE results are being celebrated by Year 11 students, who are living with disabilities and social, emotional and mental health needs, at the Together Trust’s two special schools in Stockport.
The Together Trust, one of the leading disability charities in the North West, runs Inscape House School for pupils with autism and Ashcroft School which educates young people whose social, emotional and mental health needs form barriers to learning.
Both schools are based on the charity’s Cheadle campus. Inscape has around 100 pupils and Ashcroft about 80.
22 students between the two schools have achieved 47 GCSES with 55% being at Grade 4 or higher. Inscape had 13 pupils sitting their GCSEs and Ashcroft 9.
“Our students have done incredibly well in their exams” said Sara Bayley, Together Trust’s Head of Service for Inscape House School and Bridge College. “Their personal and disability challenges, which are different for each young person, make their results even more remarkable.
As well as the students’ hard work, their success reflects our educational approach. Inscape and Ashcroft tailor learning to each student’s individual needs to maximise their opportunity for academic achievement. We are very proud of them all.”
All 13 Inscape GCSE students will stay in school for Year 12. At Ashcroft 4 of their young people will also remain with the school to continue into year 12.
