Leek’s transformed indoor market halls are hosting the first We Are Staffordshire Ambassador event of the new year, celebrating the county’s heritage and culture.
Fittingly, the event is one of the first to take place in the town’s indoor market halls which recently re-opened following a multi-million pound investment project to modernise and improve the amenities whilst respecting and retaining the heritage of the building.
Leader of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Councillor Gledhill, will be speaking about the refurbishment of the markets at the event on 16 January. He will be joined by representatives from OUTSIDE Arts, Staffordshire History Centre and Teapot Factory CIC.
Councillor Gledhill said:
“I can’t think of a better venue for this event which is all about the importance of Staffordshire’s heritage and history and how we can use that as a platform to celebrate our unique culture.
"The project we’ve delivered at Leek market is the perfect example and showcases what can be achieved when we focus on our heritage and culture whilst providing the quality amenities for residents and visitors to enjoy. The benefits will be felt across the district and the wider region.
“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved and I’m looking forward to welcoming people to the Moorlands and our Butter and Trestle Markets to see the results for themselves and hear more about how we did it.”
We Are Staffordshire was established in 2020 to promote Staffordshire. The organisation spearheads promotion and marketing of the county as a prime location to live, work, study, visit and invest.
Louisa Shaw, Head of Place Marketing at We Are Staffordshire, said:
“We hold a number of free events throughout the year to showcase our county, its assets and organisations.
“We’re excited to be holding our first one of the year in Leek in their newly refurbished market hall. We still have a limited number of places left for this event, so please do register to join us.”
The event takes place on Thursday 16 January between 2pm and 4.30pm.
