MP THANKS TEACHERS DURING VISIT TO DEAN VALLEY SCHOOL

Local MP, David Rutley, visited Dean Valley Community Primary School, Bollington and thanked the teaching and support staff for all their hard work over recent weeks to enable more pupils to get back to school and plan for the return of all year groups in September.

David visited the school following an invitation by Cllr Roland Edwards the new Chair of the Board of Governors and recent Mayor of Bollington. They were joined by Headteacher, Mrs Vicky McPherson and the Bursar, Mrs Sally Garnett. Mrs McPherson set out all that had been done to allow the Reception Class, Year 1 and Year 6 pupils to return to school on a phased basis.

Mrs McPherson  explained how social-distancing measures and year group "bubbles” have been established to keep pupils and staff safe in the school environment. There is also a very well regimented cleaning policy in place in response to the threat of coronavirus. Despite all the challenges and changes that have been put in place, it was clear that the pupils were enjoying their time back at school and the teaching staff were pleased to be able to spend time with pupils back in the classroom once again.

During his visit, David saw pupils enjoying the benefits of the school’s innovative Forest School which is held on Fridays. He also saw how the year groups who have been unable to return to the classroom were taking part in a visit to school with the rest of their class to spend time with their new teacher ahead of the next school year to support their transition.

Like the other local schools, throughout lockdown the teaching staff have been teaching children of key workers and vulnerable children, and also supporting home learning for the rest of the pupils. Mrs McPherson and the Dean Valley team have also actively provided weekly communications through the school newsletter and dojo to parents and pupils to keep them up to date on developments during this challenging time.

After the visit, David said, “I am very grateful to all our teachers in local schools for all they have been doing to support their pupils during such a difficult time. During my visit to Dean Valley School, it was encouraging to see more pupils back at school and all the steps that have been put in place by staff to keep them safe. I have been in contact with several schools over recent months and realise that there are more challenges ahead in implementing plans before the return from the summer break, but it is good to see the positive steps that are being taken locally to make this possible.”
