On Friday 8th May, Johnnie Johnson Housing will be commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE Day with a ‘VE Day Applause’ at 3pm.
Johnnie Johnson Housing, a social housing provider in the North of England, was founded in 1969 by Air Vice Marshal James Edgar Johnson; who was nicknamed "Johnnie." To honour the organisation’s founder and the enormous role he played in bringing peace to Britain in WWII, Johnnie Johnson Housing are encouraging the general public to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day with a variety of activities to do at home during the lockdown.
Yvonne Castle, Chief Executive of the not-for profit organisation, stated:
‘VE Day is a historical day that should be celebrated no matter what. At the moment our residents and colleagues have been working incredibly hard during the COVID-19 outbreak, and I hope that our VE Day activities will raise their spirits and remind them that we are all in this together. In particular we have organised a ‘VE Day Applause’ which will take place at 3pm on Friday 8th May. Most importantly this activity can be done whilst staying at home; to ensure our families and residents are staying safe. It is also a fantastic opportunity to clap, sing, wave flags and make lots of noise for all those who fought for our country! We are hoping that everybody across the nation will get involved.’
Johnnie Johnson Housing continues to honour those who lay down their lives for our country, offering safe, comfortable and affordable housing opportunities to the Armed Forces and their families. They also provide employment opportunities and have raised thousands of pounds for key military charities over the years.
The ‘VE Day Applause’ will be a moment of reflection for many, and the organisation are hoping the nation will get behind their activity to acknowledge those who fought for our country.
Johnnie Johnson Housing’s head office is in Poynton, Cheshire, and we believe this VE Day activity will be a fantastic way to raise the communities spirits during this difficult time.
