National Citizens Service Back For Summer 2022

The National Citizens Service (NCS) has been back for another year in Macclesfield and local MP, David Rutley, recently met with the young people taking part in the 2022 programme to discuss their experiences and answer their questions about our democratic processes.

The group of young people from across Cheshire East and beyond, met with David at the Macclesfield & Congleton Scout District HQ to discuss a variety of topics including the work of an MP and their role in Parliament. The group also set out their plans for the third stage of their NCS course involving volunteering and supporting the community. The participants explained to David how they were focusing on key issues, such as Danes Moss and tackling domestic abuse, to raise awareness of their importance within the wider community.

During the meeting with the group, David was impressed with the wide variety of questions, ranging from his role as a Minister, supporting Ukrainian refugees and also views on modifying the design of A-Levels. The group were very positive about their experience with NCS and how they hope to use the skills and knowledge they have acquired in the future. David was also pleased to hear how participants felt that the programme had helped with their confidence and their communication skills.

David has actively supported the positive work of NCS in our local area for many years. The programme is open to all teenagers aged 15-17, and aims to help young people tackle fresh challenges, participate in outdoor activities and develop a community project which will have a lasting positive impact.

Speaking after the meeting, David said, “It was great to meet this year’s participants on the NCS programme. It was positive to discuss our democratic processes and the work the group were planning to undertake in the community. NCS provides inspiring experiences for our young people, allowing them to grow in confidence, make long lasting friendships, learn vital life skills and participate in new activities. Their experiences will stay with these young people as they move into the next stages of their lives and careers, and I wish them all the very best for the future.”
