David Rutley, MP for Macclesfield, has welcomed Richard Jervis as the new Headteacher of Hurdsfield Primary School following his appointment in April, while visiting the school.
During the meeting, Mr Jervis highlighted the important work the school has been doing for its pupils and parents, building on a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating in May 2022. Mr Jervis set out his ambitions for the school over the years ahead, with a clear focus on maintaining a strong academic performance, the school is also ensuring all pupil’s mental and physical health is well supported.
David also had the opportunity to meet with Year 6 pupils to hear about their positive experience at the school and their plans for secondary school. The pupils told David about their leaving party which had taken place the night before at Holy Trinity Hurdsfield. The pupils were also looking forward to their upcoming end of term play. David was impressed to see the Year 6 pupils dressed smartly in their blazers, which is a key feature of their uniform and helps prepare them for their time at secondary schools across Macclesfield.
With the end of the school year approaching, pupils have been busy with a number of fun activities including Hurdsfield Sports Week and residential trips, such as Year 2 pupils visiting Ilam Hall for outdoor activities and a night away from home. The school were also successful in a recent Macclesfield school cricket tournament with the Hurdsfield Cricketers achieving 4th place.
Mr Jervis is joining the school from Buglawton Primary School in Congleton, where he held the position of Deputy Headteacher for three and a half years.
Speaking after the meeting David said:
“Hurdsfield Primary School plays an important role in the local community and in the lives of local pupils and their families. I am very grateful for all that Mr Jervis and the hard-working school team does to support pupils in the classroom and the wider community. I wish Mr Jervis well with his future plans for the school.”
