Officers tackle speeding and anti-social driving during day of action across Congleton

Officers from Congleton Local Policing Unit joined forces the Constabulary’s Roads and Crime Unit (RCU) on Monday 24th July as part of a day of action aimed to tackle dangerous driving.

Police were out in force on Congleton Link Road, Clayton Bypass, Sandbach Road in Rode Heath and Middlewich Road in Holmes Chapel following reports from local residents expressing concern regarding instances of speeding and dangerous and anti-social driving.

As a result of the operation 14 traffic offence reports were issued for a variety of offences, including not wearing seat belts and using mobile phones while driving.

In addition, 10 stop checks were conducted resulting in the seizure of a car for no insurance and the arrest of a 63-year-old man for drug driving and possession of cannabis.

The team also responded to a serious road traffic collision on Giantswood Lane whilst out on patrols.

Sergeant Vicky Howell, of the force's Roads and Crime Unit, said:

“This operation demonstrates we always listen to members of the community regarding any concerns that they have, particularly when it regards a subject as important as road safety.

“We launched these operations in Congleton, Holmes Chapel and Sandbach, in direct response to concerns raised by residents regarding speeding and other anti-social driving offences on busy roads within the towns.

“It was great to see so many drivers driving at the correct speed limits and with due care and attention. Speeding can have devastating consequences, not only does it increase the risk of collisions occurring, but it can affect the severity of those that do take place, and in the worst-case scenario, it can be fatal.

“Operations like the one we conducted on Monday help to make our county’s roads safer, and we will continue to engage and educate motorists on how to use the roads safely and to enforce the law when they are not doing so.”

“I held a public meeting with residents to discuss their issues with speeding and anti-social driving on the Congleton Link Road, and this day of action demonstrates the commitment of the police to addressing local concerns.
