An off-duty police officer has been seriously injured after a hit and run incident in Middlewich this morning (Friday).
An off-duty police officer has been seriously injured after a hit and run incident in Middlewich this morning (Friday).
The officer was challenging a man driving a van who seemed drunk.
After going to the driver’s side to try and remove the keys the van driver sped off, ran over the officers foot and was dragged along the road for a short distance.
The incident happened at about 1am at the Shell garage on Holmes Chapel Road.
The officer’s injuries are not life threatening.
The van drove in the direction of Middlewich town centre.
Detective Sergeant Martin Caldwell said: “The officer who has been injured was trying to ensure that the roads we all drive on were safe. If anyone has seen the man pictured in the CCTV image then please let us know.
