Driven by Sara’s personal experiences and the exceptional care her family has received, local mum-of-three Sara Lord is set to embark on her latest challenge to raise vital funds for Macclesfield Hospital.
Sara, 55, who lives in Goostrey, will be walking an incredible 230 km in June from Manchester Piccadilly to the summit of Snowdon and back spanning five consecutive days, with her close friend Nicola.
This won’t be Sara’s first endeavour to support her local hospital after she successfully completed five walking marathons over five consecutive days in 2019, raising an impressive £5200 for the hospital's intensive care unit following her father's five-week battle with sepsis.
Since then, her husband has faced recurring illness with hospital staff again going above and beyond in their care, inspiring Sara to take on a new challenge and give back once more.
She said:
"My three children were all born at the hospital, and my dad got sepsis too, and although the outcome did not swing in our favour, the staff on the ICU unit were amazing.
“I felt it was time to give back again after my husband’s experience and decided to take on a new challenge: walking from Manchester Piccadilly to the summit of Snowdon and back down with my close friend Nicola.
“Since planning this, we have also welcomed a new member of our family, thanks to the hospital, who delivered my first grandchild, Delphine, via a non-elective C-section.
“I have had many experiences with the hospital and it’s Trust and feel we are so lucky to have the services available to us.
“We have so much to thank them for and that is why I want to raise more money this time.”
