The Coronavirus is the biggest global and national challenge since the Second World War - yet the enemy is invisible.
I know many residents and families will be feeling anxious. I have a young family myself, my wife working with vulnerable children and I have a son of primary school age.
In these challenging times I want to reassure everyone, we will step up and get through stronger as a community and nation.
In Parliament, my approach has been to put your voice and concerns at the heart of the government’s emergency health and economic response, to better shape the business, employment and social measures to protect and support people.
Already many community heroes are doing their bit, from helping local elderly neighbours to volunteering at our local foodbanks, many thanks to you all.
NHS workers are working flat out, as are many key workers to support the health and wellbeing of our community.
A minority are letting the side down, panic buying, stockpiling and threatening staff. I have taken lots of calls from worried parents who cannot get nappies, baby milk and medical supplies.
Elderly folk worried about their health and unable to purchase the basics such as bread, tinned foods and pasta. There is such a thing as society, and those selfish individuals are insulting the nation and our community in this time of need.
The supermarkets are now putting in measures to help deal with this. Broader measures will come to protect and support our communities as a result of emergency legislation that will go through parliament in the coming weeks.
Our normal everyday ways of doing things will change for a while, but look out for each other and we will come through this stronger.
Below I have attached a number of links that signpost factual information on Health and the Coronavirus, Business support, employee support, welfare and very importantly volunteering.
Step up if you can, stay safe and well.
Mike.
