Macc’s STAYINtertoto Cup future is in the hands of Middlesbrough’s Patrick Roberts after Reice Charles-Cook’s Silkmen were held to a draw at the hand of Wolves.
Ben Stephens ensured Macclesfield got off to a perfect start with a cool finish from Arthur Gnahoua’s low cross. Holding onto the win would all but guarantee Reice a place in the knockout stages and that looked like it might just happen after a largely uneventful first half.
The travelling Silkmen packed into Molineux in their numbers, but they were left frustrated after Adama Traore raced through the Macc back line and finished smartly past Charles-Cook to equalize.
But those same fans would erupt in the 62nd minute after Stephens bagged his second of the game with a powerful drive past the helpless Patricio. Macc, again, were in a position to progress.
However, Ed Francis, Wolves’ virtual manager, dealt one last sucker punch to the Silkmen as Campana equalized to bring the scores level for a second time.
Macc’s STAYINteroto Cup future hangs in the balance as they remain in second position ahead of the Reading v Middlesbrough game later tonight. A draw would be enough for the Silkmen to advance; however a Reading win would put them out of the cup.
