Cheshire West and Chester Council has secured £1,248,000 from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ Brownfield Land Release Fund.
In the announcement on Thursday (24 February) 13 local authorities have been awarded a share of funding totalling £8 million.
Gemma Davies, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Director of Economy and Housing said: “This is excellent news and adds to our plans for improvements to Winsford Town Centre and enabling the development of much needed new housing.
“The existing Phoenix Depot is being relocated to other depot facilities to ensure these vital services continue and this funding will be used to clear the site in readiness for redevelopment for zero carbon mixed tenure housing, part of the revitalisation of Winsford town centre. Up to 100 new homes will be created, providing a mix of affordable and home ownership options for local residents.”
The Brownfield Land Release Fund provides capital funding for land remediation and small-scale infrastructure to local authorities across England, to bring otherwise unviable local authority-owned sites forward for housing and self and custom build plots. The release of public sector land for housing is one of the government’s priorities to boost the supply of new homes, supporting the government’s ambition to deliver 300,000 homes per year.
