Police are appealing for witnesses following reports of dangerous driving in Cheshire and Greater Manchester.
At around 12.15am today, Wednesday 20 October, police were called to reports of a vehicle being driven the wrong way on the M62 westbound near to junction 19 at Rochdale.
A similar report was received at around 1.05am – this time on the M60 near to junction 23 at Ashton-under-Lyme.
Officers were sent to both incidents but, despite extensive searches of both areas, they were unable to locate the vehicle.
Shortly after 2am officers from Cheshire Constabulary discovered a grey Audi S5 which was parked on the hard shoulder of the M56 near to junction 11 in Daresbury facing in the wrong direction.
A 34-year-old man was located nearby and arrested. The man, who is from the Welshampton area, is currently being questioned on suspicion of dangerous driving, resisting arrest and drug driving.
Inspector Anton Sullivan from Cheshire Constabulary’s Roads and Crime Unit said: “Enquiries in relation to these incidents are ongoing and we are doing all we can to establish exactly what has happened.
“The M62, M60 and M56 are all busy roads and as part of our investigation we are keen to hear from anyone who was driving on these roads last night and believes they may have witnessed any of the incidents.
“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage which could assist our investigation.”
