A much‑loved greenspace between Riverside Park and the River Weaver in Northwich has been given a vibrant new lease of life thanks to a series of significant upgrades to its pond and surrounding landscape.
Visitors can now enjoy smoother, more accessible footpaths, smart new fencing, and a transformed pond area designed to boost both biodiversity and the overall visitor experience.
The Council-led project included clearing overgrown vegetation, desilting the pond, reshaping its banks to let in more natural light, and upgrading the dipping platforms with durable, eco‑friendly recycled composite materials. The platform frames have also been refurbished, and the well‑used timber jetty on the River Weaver has been fully replaced.
These improvements don’t just look great—they’re set to play an important role in enhancing local ecology. Increased sunlight and improved water quality will help support a richer, more resilient habitat for wildlife, making the pond a thriving natural feature once again.
Councillor Stuart Bingham, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Neighbourhood Pride said:
“It’s fantastic to see this popular greenspace revitalised in a way that supports both the community and the environment. These improvements will make the area more welcoming for visitors while also creating healthier habitats for wildlife. It’s a great example of how thoughtful investment can enhance the places people love to spend time.”
With these upgrades complete, this cherished green space will continue to offer an attractive, accessible and environmentally supportive setting for residents, families, and visitors to enjoy for years to come.
