Careers Fair welcomes students from Crewe and Nantwich schools

Young people from Crewe and Nantwich attended a careers and education fair this week to find out more about future pathways into employment.

The Cheshire and Warrington Pledge hosted the first in a series of careers and education fairs at Cheshire College South and West, welcoming 1,461 young people from 10 high schools and colleges in the area. Similar events will take place throughout Cheshire and Warrington.

The first event, held in partnership with Cheshire College South and West and the Chamber of Commerce, was also attended by 55 inspirational exhibitors including further education providers, higher education providers, employers, youth organisations and charities. 

The Cheshire and Warrington Pledge, which is dedicated to supporting schools with their career’s education, initiatives, and activities, is hosting six town wide careers fairs across Cheshire and Warrington.

The careers fairs aim to give young people a greater awareness of the education, employment, apprenticeships and traineeships, work experience and volunteering opportunities available to them when they leave school.

Charlotte Casewell, Vice Principal and Careers Lead at Sir William Stanier School, who attended the careers fair said: “We took 240 Y9 and Y10 students to this event. It was an amazing opportunity for them to see what post-16 opportunities are available on their doorstep and to raise aspirations. The exhibitors were engaging, and our students were excited and inspired by the whole experience, which is what education is all about.”

Paul Colman, CEO at the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “The support from our local employers, large and small, for this event and all the activities the Pledge delivers in schools has been fantastic. Businesses want to help inspire and shape their future workforce and hopefully this is just one of many initiatives we can replicate and grow year on year.”

Trevor Langston, The Cheshire and Warrington Pledge Lead, comments: “It was incredible to see so many of the high schools and colleges attend and have so many employers supporting the event. Even more impressive was the number of employers who received part time job applications, work experience and volunteering enquiries off the back of the event, which just proves how effective these events are.”

Further career and education fairs will take place in Ellesmere Port and Northwich in the coming months.
