With the Platinum Jubilee celebrations fast approaching, residents across Cheshire are being encouraged to get involved to help mark the occasion.
People are being asked to come along to all the events taking part in the country, throw their own community events over the four day Bank Holiday weekend and to join in with the Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday, June 5.
There are already plenty of events being planned across Cheshire, including:
- A service of commemoration at Chester Cathedral on the 2nd June followed by parade through the centre of Chester
- On the 2nd June in Congleton Park celebrating 150 years in the Park and the 750th charter year, there will be a Jubilee Picnic with concert band
- On the 3rd June the Friends of Queens Park (Crewe) will be holding a free event for the local community to celebrate the Jubilee
- Events are also being planned in Warrington and Halton, and also at a community level in the likes of Guilden Sutton and Handforth
- Beacon lighting at Chester Town Hall, in Beeston/ Cholmondeley, Frodsham Hill and other locations on 2nd June as part of the national network of Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons when 1,500 will be lit across the country. Many Towns and Parishes are getting out the Christmas Lights as a substitute for beacon lighting, and holding parties in gardens as well as the streets
- Jodrell Bank is opening its new Visitor Centre ‘First Light Pavilion’ on the 4th June
Alongside this, Chester has been awarded Queen’s Green Canopy “Champion City Status”, celebrating green spaces in and around the City.
Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire, Lady Redmond MBE, said: “I can’t wait for us all to have the chance to get together, to properly support each other after the challenges of the last two years, and celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. To make it special for all of Cheshire, we need everyone to play their part.
“Our communities have been extraordinary in keeping each other safe over the last two years but now is our chance to all get together, get up the bunting and get out into our communities, have a great time and celebrate Her Majesty’s incredible 70 years on the throne. This is a remarkable moment in history to be part of.”
Joe Manning, Chief Executive of Marketing Cheshire, said: “The Jubilee weekend is a great opportunity for our communities to get together and celebrate. There’s plenty going on across Cheshire and people can even throw their own events in their gardens and community.
“If you’re not having a party, then there are plenty of other ways to make the most of the four day weekend across Cheshire as well – whether that be going out for a meal, supporting an independent business or heading to one of our many award-winning visitor attractions.”
If people wish to hold events they are being recommended to do so in front gardens or in spaces such as car parks or village greens.
