Bus users in Cheshire East are to get an extended service that will see additional destinations, including a major hospital, a vaccination centre and Manchester Airport.
Cheshire East Council has agreed the new routes with D&G Buses, who operate the 130 service from Macclesfield to Handforth, via Alderley Edge.
The extended service will begin from 11 April, with a revised timetable. It will continue to include Wilmslow and Handforth but will run on to Manchester Airport, Wythenshawe Hospital and The Interchange.
The 130 bus is already running to Alderley Park vaccination centre, so passengers can get a Covid jab and it is likely that this new destination will be included on the route for several months.
Council deputy leader Councillor Craig Browne said: “I am pleased that the council is able to support the extension of this route. I know that many of our residents who use the 130 service will be pleased to learn that it will continue to the airport and to Wythenshawe Hospital thanks to our intervention and the support of D&G.
“I hope that this will also attract new users of the service, reducing car dependency and contributing to the council’s green strategy to encourage greater use of our public transport.
“I would like to thank Wilmslow Town Council, Handforth Parish Council, Macclesfield Town Council, Nether Alderley Parish Council and Alderley Edge Parish Council, who have collectively agreed to help match fund the cost of the bus service for a 12-month trial period. It is my hope that this funding model can be replicated in other parts of the borough, with town and parish councils working in partnership with Cheshire East Council to deliver enhanced local services for our residents.”
