Here are this weekend's Cheshire Women's Cricket League results.
Division One – May 9:
Leigh 102-8 (40; Sophie Heaton 37, Carrie Blood 22*, Ellie-Mae Davies 3-12) (25pts)
Porthill Park 76 (26.3; Libby Clifton 26, Millie Baldwin 7-9) (6pts)
· After an unbeaten Summer Series in 2020, Porthill may have been some people’s bet for the league title, but after a second defeat here, they might need to win all of their remaining matches, given that no team has won the first division in the last 15 years after suffering three defeats. In an extraordinary spell, Millie Baldwin destroyed Porthill’s top order to fire Leigh to their first win in the top-flight. Her figures were six wickets for one run at one stage, and a further scalp saw her admitted to the elite group of bowlers who have taken seven wickets in a league match.
Stockport Trinity 173-4 (40; Ellie Mason 72, Jenny Dunn 50) (6pts)
Didsbury 177-1 (35.2; Roshini Prince-Navaratnam 86*, Mishel Jeena 68) (25pts)
· Trinity won in spectacular fashion on the opening day, while Didsbury opened their title defence with defeat. However, the tables were turned decisively here in this battle of two opening partnerships. After putting on 262 on the first day of the season, Ellie Mason and Jenny Dunn’s vigil was ended here with the score on 128. Undeterred, Roshini Prince-Navaratnam and Mishel Jeena compiled a partnership of 150, with victory all but completed by the time they were separated.
Chester Boughton Hall 68-9 (40; Ali Cutler 26, Kerry Hartnett 3-3, Natalie Lyons 2-9, Sophie Connor 2-17) (2pts)
Oakmere 72-2 (25.1; Hartnett 26, Carol Ingham 20*) (25pts)
· Chester’s good start to the season didn’t last, as they went down to a comprehensive defeat against Oakmere in their second outing. Kerry Hartnett conceded just three runs from a full eight-over spell, before completing the job with the top score of the reply.
Division Two – May 9:
Ashton-on-Mersey 30 (13; Becky Baldock 12, Marcy Willis 2-3, Dulcie Price 2-3, Isabel Ellsmore 2-9) (2pts)
Porthill Park 2nd XI 31-4 (9.3; Cassie Davies 15*, Amanda Gettins 2-5) (25pts)
· As their first team went down to a second defeat, Porthill launched their second team with this spectacular and rapid victory.
Upton 62 (26; Lily Scudder 33*, Bethan Robinson 3-15, Izzy Pearson 2-5) (25pts)
Nantwich 52 (25; Charlotte Neal 11, Sophie Morris 5-9, Hannah McGowan 3-14, Charlie Scudder 2-10) (6pts)
· These two sides were separated by a single point in the 2020 Summer Series , so it was no surprise that a close contest ensued here. Sophie Morris bagged four wickets in a single over to ensure Upton went home with the spoils.
Stockport Georgians 149-3 (30; Emily Thomas 66*, Gaby McKeever 61) (25pts)
Oxton 52 (14.4; Tessie Nickson 13, Megan Cooper 13, Liv Bell 5-9) (3pts)
(Restricted to 30 overs per side)
· Superb performances from Emily Thomas, Gaby McKeever and Liv Bell got Georgians’ season off to the best possible start.
Division Three East – May 9:
Woodley 159-2 (30; Alex Wilson 63, Emily Mason 38*) (25pts)
Lindow 70 (25.3; Madison Kay-Breen 3-18, Claire Ashworth 25, Louise Hughes 2-11, Mason 2-16) (2pts)
· Woodley made an excellent start with both bat and ball, with an all-round bowling effort comfortably defending the large total compiled by Alex Wilson and Emily Mason earlier in the day.
