Here are the latest results in the Cheshire Women's League Cricket.
Division One – April 23:
Appleton v Didsbury: Katie Chomse and Hannah Marshall held their nerve to see Didsbury home with an unbroken stand of 42, following their collapse from 54-0 to 68-6.
Upton v Chester Boughton Hall: Upton went down to defeat in their top-flight bow, with their batters largely kept in check by the Chester attack. Nandu Vailliyil’s four wickets for six runs in her eight over spell was the standout performance.
Division Two – April 23:
Greenfield v Hawarden Park: A tough day for newly promoted Greenfield. There were impressive figures for all eight bowlers used by the Welsh club, but with five wickets falling to run outs, their fielding played no little part in this big win.
Hayfield w/o Stockport Trinity
Division Three Cross-Divisional Matches – April 23:
Porthill Park Northern Stars v Woodley & Ashton-on-Mersey: Last year’s division three west winners, the Northern Stars, edged past the newly formed merged team of Woodley and Ashton-on-Mersey, with Melisha Tennakoon playing the major all-round role.
Division Four West – April 23:
Oakmere 2nd XI v Wistaston Village: Oakmere edge a tight finish to start on a positive note.
Toft v Alvanley: In this match between two newcomers to the hardball divisions, Alvanley post a solid total before rain has the last word.
Fixtures awaiting possible re-arrangement:
Lindow 3rd XI v Lymm – no play due to rain on original date
Division Four East – April 23:
Langley v Macclesfield: Langley easily win this local derby.
Player registration & Player loans:
Eve Singleton – New Mills to Hayfield for maximum three division 2 matches
Grace Carter & Laura Mindwinter – both Nantwich to Wistaston Village for maximum three division 4 matches
Dual player registrations:
Hayfield have withdrawn from this year’s T20 Eastern Division. Any club wishing to field individual Hayfield players in the T20 Divisional Competition can do so provided they formally register a dual registration with me. As Hayfield have already played in the Senior Knockout, their 11 players from their first-round match on April 16 are now cup tied and cannot represent any other club in this Knockout competition.
Regulations update:
Please be aware that any proposals to call wides for leg side deliveries were voted out at the Rules Meeting in January. Wides should therefore continue to be judged according to the Laws of Cricket.
KNOCKOUT CUPS
Senior Knockout Round One – April 16:
Hayfield v Oakmere Kats: Hayfield came within a whisker of causing what would have been perhaps one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history. Instead, Oakmere were indebted to Sophie Connor, whose two maiden overs ensured that her side would not be chasing a larger total. Amy Jones’ 35 from 28 balls, with three sixes, was also a crucial contribution as she scored much faster than most of the other batters in this fairly low scoring affair.
Development Knockout:
Fixtures awaiting re-arrangement: Chester BH 2nd XI v Wistaston – cancelled due to rain on original date
NATIONAL KNOCKOUT COMPETITIONS
Cup Round One – April 23:
Lindow v Nantwich Vipers: Nantwich made it all the way to the regional final in each of the last two competitions, but that won’t happen this year, after Lindow marked their debut in the national competition with a thrilling win. Nantwich were unable to break the opening stand between Grace Hemsted and the Wilmslow club’s new overseas signing Sarah Parker. Parker then illustrated further what an impressive acquisition she could be as she played the lead role in the decline of the Nantwich innings, following their opening stand of 50.
Littleborough v Leyland: No mistake from Leyland, who began in fine form with a comfortable passage to round two.
Leigh v Stockport Georgians: After starring for Lindow in Division 2 last year, Australian star Heidi Cheadle takes on the challenge of the top-flight as a Georgians player this year. Her debut was certainly eye-catching to say the least, to see her new side to an impressive win. Georgians now host Lindow in the first round proper, while Nantwich and Leigh can continue their National KO involvement in the Plate.
