Cistor Reboots Approach to IT Sustainability

Poynton-based IT firm, Cistor, is leading the way in making IT more sustainable and cutting the carbon emissions generated by the technology industry, and local MP, David Rutley, visited their premises recently, to learn more about this positive work.

Cistor supports its customers to source and supply remanufactured IT equipment, rather than throwing technology away when it still has many years of good service left in it. By extending the life of this equipment, Cistor is helping to reduce the use of natural resources in the technology industry to address the traditional demand for new products, as well as cutting carbon emissions, and saving businesses money at the same time.

On his visit. David toured the company’s net-positive, solar-powered factory, alongside its Founder and Chairman, Anthony Levy, and Head of Marketing, Louise Whitaker. Mr Levy explained that, since it was founded 14 years ago, Cistor has saved over 859,000 kilograms of electronic waste by renewing existing technology, with ambitious plans to increase that total to 1 million kilograms by the end of 2022, and 10 million kilograms by the end of 2030.

What is more, Cistor continues to go from strength to strength, with thriving operations in both the US and Denmark, and it counts the NHS, Ministry of Defence, London Stock Exchange, and Vodafone among its clients. Looking ahead, Cistor is soon to grow its operations, by becoming part of the Circularity First group of companies, expanding its reach further. It also has exciting plans in train to connect and engage with more local businesses.

Speaking after his visit, David said, “IT has a crucial role to play in supporting our successful transition to a net-zero economy, so it was great to hear from the team at Cistor about their positive work to support this key aim. Their approach to IT is sustainable and responsible, and I wish them well in the months ahead in moving to the Circularity First group, and in encouraging more businesses to cut their carbon output by investing in remanufactured IT.”
