Closure order granted on Crewe property that brought misery to local community

A property in Crewe which brought misery to the local community has been closed down thanks to the work of local officers.

On Wednesday  22 December officers from the local Beat Team attended Crewe Magistrates’ Court where they were granted a closure order for the property on Brooklyn Street.

The order was granted under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 and will see the house closed to anyone but the occupant for up to three months.

Regular checks will be conducted at the property to ensure that the closure order has not been breached.

If anyone is found to have breached the order they are liable to arrest and up to six months’ prison, and/or a £5,000 fine.

Officers worked to secure the order by gathering evidence in relation to illegal drug related activities inside the address along with anti-social behaviour.

Police Constable Calum O’Toole said: “I know that this result will be welcome news to nearby residents who have suffered far too long due to the nuisance activity at the address.

“I hope that the closure order will finally allow the community to return to some normality.

“It also shows that we will act on information provided to us by the public and we will work to gather evidence in order to get the results we need to make Crewe safer place to live and visit.

“Over the coming months, officers will pay passing attention and monitor the address to ensure that there are no breaches of the order.”
