The Friends of Congleton Park and Congleton Town Council are celebrating Congleton Park scooping its 16th consecutive Green Flag and third Green Heritage award.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Streetscape’s Development Manager, Ruth Burgess said: “This is a fantastic achievement, we are over the moon that Congleton Park continues to be officially recognised as one of the country’s best parks. The Green Flag scheme, which is now in its 27th year, is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces. A massive thanks to the 'Friends' and the Town Council Streetscape team who do a tremendous job ensuring the park looks good all year round. We would particularly like to acknowledge Ruth Morgan, Parks Manager from Ansa and Glen Williams, Chair, Friends of Congleton Park for all the work that went into the Heritage Green Flag submission. Last but definitely not least, all the volunteers for their hard work, dedication, and support.”
The Friends of Congleton Park working alongside Streetscape, ANSA and Cheshire East Council ensure that everybody has access to a high quality green open space and that the park is appropriately managed and meets the needs of all visitors whilst respecting the historical integrity. They have established an excellent standard of environmental management, community involvement, biodiversity, landscape, and heritage.
Glen Williams, Chair, Friends of Congleton Park said: "Winning our 16th Green Flag is absolutely amazing and recognises the consistently high standards achieved by all the partners and volunteers who maintain the impressive Victorian Park. It is testament to the original design of Edward Kemp and the sympathetic changes that have occurred over the last 150 years. If you haven’t been down to the park for a while, make sure you pay a visit to enjoy the bees, blooms and bears! Finished off with a trip to Stock at the Pavilion with beautiful views of the park.”
