From cardboard cut-outs to hand painted designs and glittering crowns, Congleton shops and businesses are Platinum Jubilee ready with their royal window displays. 16 shops entered a window competition run by the Town Council to find the best Jubilee window display.
A number of windows really stood out and there was some stiff competition, but after some debate Rogers Barbers on High Street was declared the winner for its fun and creative display. Joint second place went to Stephenson Brown and Craft Room GB Interiors. Third place was awarded to Hightown Post Office.
Jane Bostock, Owner of Hightown Post Office said: “We’re thrilled our window caught the judges eye! We worked so hard on the display, especially my talented niece Evie Bostock, who spent hours creating the design. It’s lovely to receive so many wonderful comments from our customers and everyone is looking forward to the Jubilee celebration.”
The winners were presented with certificates and a share of the £70 cash prize pot. The windows were judged for impact, creativity and effort by four independent judges and the scores tallied to find the winners.
Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Margaret Gartside said: “We would like to thank all the traders that entered the competition. There are some fabulous displays, which have helped to spread the Jubilee vibe in the town centre. The shop windows, along with the heraldic flags above and hanging baskets really does make the town look and feel special. If you’ve not been into Congleton for a while come in and take a look! Share a picture of your favourite window on social media with #Congletonjubilee.”
In addition to the four winners the judges awarded Highly Commended to Cancer Research, Chris Hamriding, Delia Metcalf, H J Lea Oakes, Isabel’s Fashion House, Sugar Plum Hair Salon and Town Hall Studios.
Commended certificates went to: 130 Atelier, Congleton Information Centre, Curtains by Design, Oxfam and Stock.
