Congleton’s Mayor, Margaret Gartside, officially opened a new inclusive roundabout in Congleton Park on 11th May.
Congleton Park is the main park for children in the area and is loved by many children, it is now improved with the addition of a wheelchair-accessible roundabout! It's important for families with disabled and able-bodied children to be able to play together, this piece of equipment provides fun for all children and carers/parents - fun for the whole family!
Congleton Partnership led a crowdfunding campaign in 2022, which raised a total of £14,000 to purchase and install the equipment. This inclusive wheelchair roundabout can accommodate a wheelchair and carers. Two users can sit, and more can stand if they choose to do so. The wide central space facilitates a range of wheelchairs. Bump stops on both sides give a position to apply the wheelchair roundabout brakes. The ‘roll on roll off’ design enables users to exit in a forward position.
Every pound really did count, thanks to 31 members of the public who donated anything from £5 to £40.
Thanks to local business support Kanga Health, White Knight Business Development, Clarke Cable, Diamond Electrics, Beartown Voice & Sterling Investment Properties.
And donations from Cheshire East Council, Congleton Partnership, Congleton Town Council, Congleton Lions, Friends of Congleton Park, Congleton Young Peoples Trust, Margaret Williamson Trust and Bruce Wakefield Trust.
Peter Aston, Chair of Congleton Partnership commented:
“This is a great example of what can be achieved when the community works together to improve our town. Thanks to all who contributed.”
