Make the change, live longer better: Cheshire East Council has announced a new initiative to help residents live healthier and happier lives through everyday choices for lasting health.
The council has unveiled a comprehensive approach, focusing on areas such as nutrition, physical activity, stress management and access to healthcare to equip individuals with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive throughout their lives.
The Lifestyle on Prescription project first went live in September 2023 with a focus on engaging with professionals. It was hoped that the professionals would then take the messages and pass them on to others (including other professionals and local residents).
This January ‘re-launch’ is to link in directly with residents who want to make changes in the new year (perhaps as part of a new year resolution) and those who are thinking/planning a change over the next few months. These could include stopping smoking, having more alcohol-free days and getting more sleep.
The Lifestyle on Prescription resource will enable residents to contact services and source useful information that can support and empower them to make positive lifestyle changes.
Councillor Jill Rhodes, Cheshire East Council adults and health committee chair, said:
"Lifestyle change can be tough but there is help out there if you know where to look. We want to raise awareness of the services and the support which is available to all.
“Thinking about it is often the first step and the second step could be having a conversation and finding out more.
“Changing your behaviour to improve your health may help you live longer better – may mean you need fewer medications in the future, and you may also find you enjoy the process and make new friends along the way.”
