Council offers young people chance to work on digital arts project

Cheshire East Council’s libraries team is seeking young people from Crewe aged between 11-16 to get involved in a new library-based digital arts project.

Luminate Youth is an after-school digital project and Arts Council England funded programme which gives young people an opportunity to try a range of digital arts activities, including: coding, e-textiles, paper circuitry, electronics and digital light art. 

The project culminates in a collective public light installation, created by the young participants. The installation will be displayed as part of an art trail through Crewe in late November. 

Together with the project’s, delivery partner, Mako Create, the council is also offering a series of Minecraft ‘Inspired' October half term digital light activities which are aimed at families with primary school-aged children. 

Councillor Mick Warren, chair of Cheshire East Council’s environment and communities committee, said: “This is another great opportunity for young people to develop existing skills and learn new ones in a very engaging and safe environment.”

“We’ve got a really positive working relationship with this partner, as they have delivered many arts projects to young people in our borough before, so I’m convinced this will be a big success as well. 

“It’s fantastic that the young people will also get a chance to show off their skills at Crewe Town Council’s Lumen event. Putting these skills into practice gives young people such confidence. I wish them all well.”
