Cheshire East Council is urging people to return postal ballots promptly for the upcoming by-election for Middlewich Town Council – due to Royal Mail strike action.
The council has been advised that the Communication Workers’ Union is planning to carry out strike action on several dates in the run up to this by-election for Cledford Ward, including the election day itself, on Thursday 10 November 2022.
This will result in no collection, sorting or delivery of post on these dates by Royal Mail.
It is very important that, if eligible voters wish to return their postal vote, they do so as soon as possible.
Postal ballots are due to be issued around 26 October, to those who requested them.
Electors are advised that they should not put their completed postal vote in a Royal Mail post box after the last collection time stated on the post box, on Monday 7 November 2022, as their vote may not be received in time to be counted.
If voters do not post their postal vote by this time, they are able to hand it in at our council offices at Westfields, Sandbach. During usual office hours, there will be a sealed ballot box positioned in the reception area, at Westfields, for completed postal votes. Outside office hours please use the usual letter box at Westfields.
Alternatively, voters can hand their postal vote in at any polling station on election day. Details of the locations are shown below:
Cheshire East Council Offices, Westfields, Middlewich Road, Sandbach, CW11 1HZ
Polling stations – open from 7am-10pm on Thursday 10 November 2022:
- St Mary's Parish Hall, New King Street CW10 9EB
- Middlewich Methodist Church, 184 Booth Lane CW10 0EF
The deadline for receipt of completed postal votes is 10pm on Thursday 10 November 2022.
