Hannah Fairclough, aged 31, from Crewe, has set up her own business to support people with a visual impairment.
Hannah is herself registered blind due to the genetic disorder Bardet Biedel Syndrome and is also a guide dog owner, her dog is called Yazz.
Hannah has setup her business to teach people with a visual impairment and those with disabilities, how to use Apple products with its built-in screen reader VoiceOver enabled, and how to use keyboard shortcuts to navigate Microsoft Office.
Hannah was taught at Cheshire College South and West in Crewe, by a lady who taught visually impaired people on a one to one basis on how to use the computer with keyboard shortcuts.
Hannah taught herself to use Apple’s built in screen reader VoiceOver, as her sight started to deteriorate.
Following any initial email or phone enquiries, Hannah is able to visit her clients at their home or meet up at a public location.
In addition, Hannah promotes disability empowerment through talks to young people in schools, colleges and universities. Discussing the challenges and barriers she has faced and how to overcome them.
Hannah also works with organisations seeking to develop their employment processes and how to become more disability friendly.

So I decided to setup my own business, teaching other people with similar disabilities as myself to use technology, especially after the last year. The covid 19 pandemic has forced us all to live in a more digital environment.
I attend the social club at the Crewe Iris centre. They had to close like many other charges, but put together a video on a memory stick with poems, stories, music and other contributions from relevant businesses and organisations. This is where I discovered Rob Pickersgill’s business, Real Life Learning. I then contacted him and since then he has been a great support. “
