Crewe resident Lois North, 16, conquered the Nantwich 10K Run in support of the National Deaf Children’s Society on Sunday 17th March.
Lois completed her run, which started and finished in Nantwich town centre and wound through the scenic countryside to the West of the town, in a personal best time of 56 minutes, 41 seconds.
So far she’s raised over £1,600 for the charity, which supports the UK’s 50,000 deaf children and their families.
She chose to run for the National Deaf Children’s Society because she is deaf and uses a hearing aid. The family was supported by the charity during her childhood.
Lois, who is currently studying for her ‘A’ levels, lives in Crewe with her parents, Jan and Paul, and younger brother Will.
Lois said:
“The run was a fantastic experience. I really enjoyed it and the crowd kept encouraging me. I also managed to get a personal best!’’
“I chose to run for the National Deaf Children’s Society as they’ve had an amazing impact on my life. Throughout my time in secondary school, they provided constant support for me and my family, especially during my transition from primary to secondary.
“As a result, I decided I’d love to give something back for the help and support that I received. I want to help raise awareness of the wonderful things this charity does!”
Tamsin Bayliss, who supports fundraisers for the National Deaf Children’s Society, said:
“I want to say a huge thank you to Lois for taking on this challenge for us. Conquering the Nantwich 10K run was a great achievement and we’re very proud of you.
“The National Deaf Children’s Society is dedicated to supporting the UK’s 50,000 deaf children and their families. The efforts of selfless fundraisers like Lois will help us to keep on doing our vital work, now and into the future.”
