A ‘one-stop shop’ for people with hearing loss will continue for another three years.
DSN CEO David Horrocks said he was ‘delighted’ to announce the long-standing charity has been selected to deliver an Early Help Hearing (Impairment) Service for Children, Young People and Adults in Cheshire East over the next three years.
Sarah Finlay, DSN’s Team Manager for Health Social Care and Youth will lead the team delivering the service.
She said: “As an organisation that focuses on making sure that people with a hearing loss have the same opportunities to access early help and support, it is fantastic to be able to continue to deliver this service across the Cheshire East Local Authority. We look forward to working with our partners to provide positive outcomes for children, young people and adults across East Cheshire.”
It is estimated that by 2025 over 86,000 adults in Cheshire East will have some form of hearing loss¹. In response to this DSN, working closely with Cheshire East Council, will provide a fully comprehensive service for residents experiencing a sensory impairment for the people in the county. The Early Help Service is aimed at promoting people’s independence and delivering innovative solutions and strategies to meet the needs of children, young people and adults with hearing impairments.
Sensory Support Workers will undertake a person-centred approach and provide specialist support for children, young people and adults such as increasing access to: education; employment; training; social networks and connections; equipment and technology as well as other support. Help with loss and bereavement will also be provided by DSN.
The charity, which has been operating in Cheshire for 45 years has won multiple awards and contracts for its pioneering and forward-thinking approach to sensory loss. With a team of more than 70 staff, including highly skilled interpreters and Sensory Support Workers, the charity now provides services for around 200,000 people in Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Flintshire, Wrexham and the surrounding areas.
