Congleton is going for Gold on Tuesday 1st August, when the town will be judged in the North West Large Town Category in the RHS in Bloom competition.
The judges will be given a whistle stop tour of the town hosted by Congleton in Bloom.
The Town Mayor, Cllr Rob Moreton will officially welcome the judges at the town hall before they commence their inspection. Starting at Astbury Mere, the judges will move on to the Elizabeth Garden, West Road, Sterling Close biodiversity site, Food4Free Garden, Bath House, Community Garden, Town Centre, Congleton Park, all the roundabouts, and the 11 In Your Neighbourhood sites. The council’s Streetscape team and the In Bloom volunteers are pulling out all the stops to ensure the town looks its best before the big day.
Congleton in Bloom are calling on the community to lend a hand at two town tidies.
Cllr David Brown, who chairs Congleton in Bloom said:
“Although the town is looking blooming fabulous, we can’t leave anything to chance. We would like to get as many volunteers as possible to ensure the town centre is looking spic and span. There will be a variety of jobs including litter picking, weeding, and cleaning. If you can spare an hour on either Saturday 29 July from 10am-12 noon and Monday 31 July from 6pm-8pm then please join us at the Community Garden, Lawton Street. If we get Gold again, you will be able to say you were part of the award-winning team.”
Those joining in are advised to wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Everything else; Hi-Viz vests, litter pickers, sacks, gloves, and all equipment will be provided.
Over the past two decades, Congleton has had amazing success in regional and national RHS in Bloom competitions scooping 20 gold medals for its horticultural excellence, community involvement and environmental responsibility. Congleton has represented the North West in the national large town finals in 2001, 2007, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2022, winning 4 gold medals. Congleton would have been a finalist in 2020 if Covid-19 hadn’t caused the competition to be postponed.
