In a joint project between Congleton Partnership and Congleton Lions, a potentially life-saving defibrillator has been installed at Congleton’s Ambulance Station.
The equipment was registered on 12 May and first called into service on 31 May, already proving to be a vital resource for the community.
With thanks to Northwest Ambulance Service (NWAS) for permission to install it at Congleton’s ambulance station, the defibrillator has been dedicated to the memory of Clive Heather, a long-serving paramedic and former Congleton Lion. Clive’s wife Ruth and family members were joined by representatives from NWAS, Congleton Lions, Congleton Partnership and the town mayor Margaret Gartside at the official opening.
David Morris from the Congleton Lions said: “Clive was a member of Congleton Lions for a number of years and during that time he was totally involved in helping the people of Congleton. Although Clive was a very dedicated family man and a very busy paramedic with North West Ambulance he would always be the first to volunteer his help where it was needed. For those of us who knew and respected the work that Clive did over the years, he will be greatly missed. He was a person who was dedicated to serving the community in the true spirit of the Lion’s motto “We Serve”.
Each defibrillator is registered on a central database, 999 operators will direct a caller to their nearest defibrillator in the event of an emergency. Cathy Dean, Congleton Partnership Officer commented: “The Congleton Partnership is committed to working with partners to install life-saving defibrillators at strategic points around the town, it really does save lives.”
The Lions and Congleton Partnership have now jointly funded 5 defibrillators for the town, which are accessible 24x7. They are located on Padgbury Lane, Church House Inn, Congleton Library, Congleton Park and the Ambulance station.
Congleton Chronicle prints the location of defibrillators in Congleton on the back page of the paper every week and a list can be found on the Congleton Town Council website.
