During a recent visit with local MP, David Rutley, Macclesfield Academy Headteacher, Mat Galvin, shared the impressive news that places at the Academy are in such demand, that for the upcoming school year, 2023-24, they are oversubscribed.
Over recent years, Macclesfield Academy has excelled in the work it does for its students and the community, with 57% of students following a traditional academic pathway. Local parents have clearly recognised the Academy going from strength to strength, working to maximise the potential of every one of their students, and responded by applying for their children to attend this excellent school.
During the visit, David met with teachers, staff, and pupils to discuss exciting plans for the Academy to join the multi-academy trust, the Sir John Brunner Foundation, which includes the Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College in Northwich. All Academies within the Trust are high performing, and there was clear support from staff and students to be part of a Trust which recognises the importance of first-class education, with emphasis on loyalty, compassion, and a strong sense of contribution to their community.
David also had the opportunity to meet some of the pupils involved in rock band Macc Sabbath, and a brass band which formed in year 7 as part of a unit of work, then used the facilities at the school to continue to grow and develop as an ensemble. They recently had the opportunity to participate in the ‘Macc Academy Got Talent’ event.
Mat Galvin, Headteacher said “Our thanks to Mr Rutley for visiting our wonderful school and talking to students about their lived experiences, both at school and in our local community. As ever, our staff and students were fantastic and talked passionately about our vibrant learning community.”
Speaking after the meeting David said “All the teachers and staff at Macclesfield Academy have been working incredibly hard to reach the high-performance levels they are currently achieving. The next school year being oversubscribed is a testament to the impressive work they have been doing – I look forward to seeing their continued success!”
