Job seekers and career changers from across Cheshire East gathered on Friday 20th June at the Macclesfield Jobs Fair, a vibrant event designed to connect local talent with potential employers.
Hosted in partnership between Cheshire East Council and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the fair welcomed more than six hundred attendees eager to explore new opportunities and gain practical support on their employment journey.
A standout feature of the event was the presence of the National Careers Service, offering their free, impartial ‘Help to Apply’ service and one-to-one careers advice. Whether attendees were unemployed, looking to upskill, or considering a career change, the service provided tailored guidance to help people take the next step with confidence.
Councillor Michael Gorman, Cheshire East Council’s committee chair for economy and growth praised the event’s impact and said:
“It’s fantastic to see so many people engaging with local employers and support services. Events like this are about more than just finding a job — they’re about building confidence, making connections, and opening doors.
“We’re proud to work with partners like the DWP and National Careers Service to ensure everyone has access to the advice and support they need.”
Mark Gibson, supply chain manager and business manager for Cheshire and Warrington from the National Careers Service, said:
“We’re pleased to be a key partner with Cheshire East Council and the DWP at jobs fair events such as these.
“Being here today for the first time means we can offer real-time support to people who need it — whether that’s help with applications, CVs, or simply talking through their options. Everyone benefits from having someone in their corner, and we’re here to provide that support for people of all ages, no matter their employment status.”
With dozens of employers and training providers in attendance, the fair highlighted the strength of collaboration between local government, national services, and the community — all working together to boost employment and skills across the region.
