Macclesfield Town Community Sports Trust is an independent charity based at Moss Rose that has been an ever-present partner of the Silkmen since the Club’s first promotion to the Football League in 1997.
It combines the delivery of sport and wellbeing support to the community with the provision of coaching and access to competitive football for students studying Sports Science at Macclesfield College and All Hallows Catholic High School, a programme that is recognised and respected by its erstwhile peers in the Football League.
Fittingly, in the last ever competitive game played by a team representing the “old” Macclesfield Town, the Trust’s U19 team defeated Swindon Town at the FA’s St George’s Park campus to be crowned 2020 EFL CEFA National Champions*.
The Trust is therefore delighted that it will be able continue to deliver its Community and Sports Education projects in partnership with Rob Smethurst and Macclesfield FC, the new football club to be based at Moss Rose.
“Following constructive discussions over the past few days we’re confident we can develop a successful relationship with our new partners at Moss Rose”, said Trust Manager Paul McGuire. “We’re impressed with the plans, including a 4G pitch, being proposed for the stadium. We currently have to play U19 and U21 “home” games out of the town and it will be good to be able to bring some of these fixtures home to Moss Rose”.
* The Community & Education Football Alliance (CEFA) is a Football Competition run for EFL Club Community Organisations, featuring teams presenting Premier League and EFL Clubs across the country.
