A man has been jailed for a total of three years and nine months after officers stopped a car in Cheshire that contained three kilos of cocaine.
Alexander Stacey appeared at Chester Crown Court on Thursday 5 October where he was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.
He had pleaded guilty to the offences at an earlier hearing.
Stacey, of Devereux Road, Wiltshire, was in the black Vauxhall Insignia when it was pulled over by officers on the M6 at around 1.40pm on Monday 17 April.
The 27-year-old was travelling along the slip road on junction 18 when his untaxed vehicle was spotted by officers on patrol.
The car also had an expired MOT.
A stop check was conducted which lead officers to discover a backpack full of cocaine in the rear footwell.
The cocaine had an estimated value of between £48,000 - £114,000.
Stacey was arrested and subsequently charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs (cocaine).
Detective Sergeant Laura Fox said:
“With the strength of the evidence we were able to gather, Stacey had little choice other than to plead guilty to the offences put to him.
“His conviction and the significant custodial sentence handed to him by Chester Crown Court are the results of great work by the investigating officer, PC Harry Bayley of Macclesfield Area Investigation Team, and all other officers involved in the case, which shows the value of police stop checks.
“What started as a basic stop check resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of class A drugs.
“On top of that, Stacey is now behind bars facing the consequences of his actions.
“I hope that his sentence acts as a warning to others and sends out a clear message that if you come to Cheshire to commit crime, you will be caught and you will be brought to justice.”
