This afternoon, Macclesfield Town XI travel to Division 1 South team Sandbach United to continue their pre-season programme.
The Elite Development Squad have been in great form of late - scoring three goals in their last match at Poynton FC, with Tyler James getting a special mention, grabbing a hat-trick in a three-all draw.
Sandbach has also managed to find the net on a regular basis, most recently, in their 5-3 victory against Haughmond FC where Bobby McDonnel grabbed a brace and there were also goals from Matthew Pearson, Tom Wakefield and Keiran Knapper.
Sandbach currently who play their trade in The North West Counties Football League and are nicknamed ‘The Ramblers’.
The club was founded in 2004 following a merger with Sandbach Albion and Sandbach Ramblers. They made their debut in the FA Cup in 2018/19 season but got knocked out by Parkgate in the extra preliminary round.
The last time the sides met was last year where Sandbach came out on top with 6-1 win. Since then, a lot has changed and Macclesfield are expecting a better performance and result.
Macclesfield Town Academy Coach, Daniel Whiting, is wary of Sandbach’s threats whilst being optimistic about the game.
He said: “It will be a great physical test for our XI squad, that’s for sure. Sandbach are a well organised and disciplined side, who don’t mind getting stuck in.”
“I do strongly believe we’ll give them a game as we do have a talented bunch of players and the game will be a battle for both sets of teams.”
