As we start to move out of lockdown, Macclesfield’s MP, David Rutley, was invited to open the new bowling season with committee members of the Parkside Bowling Club in Macclesfield.
Terry Jackson, the Club’s Chairman, together with Keith Nicklin, Secretary, and Chris Andrew were on hand to put David through his paces on the bowling green to mark the start of the season. The active club has 90 members and regularly participates in a number of leagues and tournaments, so that it can cater for all its members, whatever their ability level.
From Monday 29th March, people are able to participate in organised sports and recreational activities outdoors. Parkside Bowling Club has put in place processes to ensure that social distancing is maintained and also established a booking system to ensure that public health regulations are respected and members can feel safe while out on the bowling green.
David has long been an advocate of the benefits of bowling to those who take part, as it is a great way for local residents to keep physically active, to enhance mental health and make new friends. Parkside Bowling Club is proud to have members who are still bowling into their nineties!
The Club has been actively working to enhance its facilities over recent years. During David’s visit, Mr Jackson explained how pleased Club members were for the greatly appreciated donation from Macclesfield Town Council, which helped to provide new washrooms for members.
After visiting Parkside Bowling Club, David said, “It was an honour to be asked to help open the season at Parkside Bowling Club, particularly as we start on the roadmap out of lockdown. We are fortunate to have a number of active bowling clubs in Macclesfield, like Parkside Bowling Club, and I hope that more residents will take the opportunity to get involved in the months ahead. It’s a great way to get active again after months in lockdown!”
