Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity has announced the opening of a new, dedicated children’s waiting area at Victoria Infirmary in Northwich.
This vibrant space, funded by the generous support of local fundraisers, is designed to make hospital visits more comfortable for young patients and their families.
Children from The Grange School, who actively contributed to fundraising efforts, had the honour of cutting the ribbon at the opening ceremony. Joined by other key donors and supporters of the VIN Appeal, they were among the first to experience the innovative new area.
This innovative, child-centric space has been carefully designed to ease the hospital experience for young patients and their families. The area features a high-tech interactive floor projector with engaging games, a games console for older children, and sensory activities for the younger ones. The room’s colourful, playful design adds to the welcoming atmosphere, helping to ease the anxiety often associated with hospital visits.
Hospital visits can be intimidating for children and their families. Unfamiliar surroundings, noises, people, and equipment can affect how children cope with a visit to hospital and how they feel about it once they go home. By offering a calming and stimulating environment, we aim to make their experience more comfortable and less daunting.
Emma Robertson, Head of Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity, commented:
“Creating a dedicated space for children and their families is very important to us. We are immensely grateful for the generous support and funding from the Northwich community. This project exemplifies our commitment to enhancing the hospital experience beyond the standard NHS provisions. We hope this space provides a comforting distraction during challenging times. Inviting our incredible supporters to join us for the opening event was very special indeed.”
Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity continues to seek support for further improvements at Victoria Infirmary.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity is a registered charity which supports the excellent work of Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We do this by providing funding for state-of-the-art equipment, new facilities and all the added extras that make people's experience at our hospitals and in our community services the best it can be. We also provide funding for specialist training for Trust staff, which enhances their skills and helps them to provide even better care to their patients. We couldn't do any of this without the ongoing support, hard work and generosity of our local communities who donate to, and fundraise for, the charity.
