New Cine Window Winsford display celebrates community resilience

Community art facility Cine Window returns this week to sprinkle a touch of festive sparkle on Winsford Cross shopping centre, while celebrating residents’ resilience this year.

The exhibition space, which has been used previously to show community films and public art displays, has been revamped by artist Cath Campbell this winter.

Residents will be able to take a short break from their Christmas shopping to enjoy a series of three new films and two new exhibitions which have gone on show.

The new display will showcase the talent and creativity of residents and local schoolchildren and pay tribute to the community spirit everyone has shown during the pandemic.

The new display:

• The Official Winsford 2021 Calendar, published by the Friends of Winsford Town Park, features portrait photos of 176 Winsford key workers who have supported their communities during the COVID pandemic. It is shown as a film and as prints in the Community Window.
• A specially commissioned Christmas animation made by artist Sheryl Jenkins showcases 619 bauble drawings from seven Winsford schools within a winter wonderland of northern lights, snow, robins, foxes and reindeer.
• The Cine Window Christmas Card is a short animation to wish everyone Seasons Greetings from the Cine Window.

Artist Cath Campbell, creative producer of Cine Window Winsford, said: “The Cine Window is delighted to be reopening this December showing 'The Official Winsford 2021 Calendar', celebrating local people who have helped their communities during the Covid Crisis, and 'Winsford Wonderland’ an animation by artist Sheryl Jenkins that includes nearly 700 drawings by local school children.

“Our revamped exhibition spaces will host some of the children's drawings and a series of portraits from the calendar. The Cine Window aims to showcase local talent and creativity, and we hope everyone will enjoy our new exhibitions."

John Malam, chair of Friends of Winsford Town Park, said: “The calendar is raising funds for local causes: the Friends of Winsford Town Park, and St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice. More than 500 copies have been sold so far. We think it’s a unique calendar as we have not seen another one like it.”

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “The role of our community in helping each other through this pandemic cannot be underestimated. People came together to provide emotional support and physical resources to help people to self-isolate and avoid catching the virus. It is wonderful that this is being recognised in the new display at Cine Window in Winsford. I urge visitors to Winsford Cross to stop and enjoy the great work of Cath and those in the community who have contributed to it.”

This new programme has been made possible with support from the DCMS Cultural Recovery Fund awarded as part of Cheshire West and Chester Council Cultural Services.

The films will be on display through December 2020 and into January 2021.
