Northwich Library services will be temporarily relocated to Weaver Hall Museum while the historic building on Witton Street is renovated.
There will also be a library presence at Brio Memorial Court where residents can make use of a self-service issue and return offer. Events and activities will also be offered at Weaver Hall, Brio and other suitable locations across the town centre.
Councillor Louise Gittins, leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “Our library and museum services will work together at Weaver Hall Museum to temporarily run both services from the same site in Northwich. It will operate in a way that will complement libraries and museums.
“The site offers free parking, is walkable from the existing library in approximately 15 minutes, either through the town or along the river through the park. It is also accessible by bus and bicycle. The space available will allow us to offer a balanced temporary library service to residents.
“We are also providing a pop-up service at Brio, allowing customers to return books at a town centre location and to borrow from a small collection. This will be regularly serviced by library staff.
“Work is starting this month on the stabilisation of the building in Witton Street to install additional scaffolding to improve the stability of the building’s structural walls. A design team have been appointed and will now develop designs to renovate the library to ensure it is improved for future generations to use. We will share these plans with residents when they have been finalised and they will be displayed on the Council website.”
The temporary service will offer children’s and adults books, access to IT and information, events and activities. More information will be provided shortly about the service and expected opening date.
Library services with extended opening hours are currently operating at Sandiway, Barnton and Weaverham libraries and loans from Northwich are being extended to 30 November. Scheduled events have moved to new locations. For details visit:
